I'm sick

Besides being somewhat messed up in the head, I have the Penhold Plauge. For those of who don't quite get it, Penhold is in Alberta, and my cousin, Middle Child, just spent the summer up there. The only problem with spending the entier summer in close quarters with 100's of other teenagers is the the flu goes around...more than once! Well she gave it to me and now I'm sick a week before school starts and it sucks!

requisite \REK-wuh-zit\,
adjective:
1. Required by the nature of things or by circumstances; indispensable.
noun:
1. That which is required or necessary; something indispensable.

I have become very familar with this word in signing up ( or more to the point trying to sign up) for courses in university!

Wierdest Dream

I had the stratngest dream right before I woke up ths morning. I woke up crying and when I really thought about I realized why. In the dream Middle Child and I had been adopted together for some reason. Well the adoptive parents wanted to keep her, but not me and since I'm 19 I had to 'declare' my independence. Well I tried say it to them but they wouldn't listen and I really didn't want to say it because if I did then, that ment I would have to leave Middle Child and never see her again. Well I went around to the back of the car they were sitting in and screamed through the window to the 'parents' if they could hear me and I said it to Middle Child but as I was saying it I started to cry.

"I *Full Name* declare my indepenence from my carers and agree to move out of the family home. I lay claim to half the profits from the sale of the home, and agree not to forward any bills for personal needs, food, housing, or school to your new address. In addition I agree not to contact (this is where I started crying in the dream) *Middle Child* under any circumstances, and in exchage, on the eve of her 19th birthday I will come take custody of her."

It was the strangest dream and when I woke up I had tears streaming down my cheeks. It all makes sense in a twisted way though. Last night Middle Child said we were the closest things to sisters we each had ever had (since neither of us have sisters) and I guess that's why in the dream I became her 'sister'. Also, I think right now I am really anxious about moving out eventually and the bills with school and everything else I've been getting pu me in quite a bit of debt. At the same time I think I subconsiensly realize that that's all part of growing up and I just need to deal with it, but Middle Child will be there for me if and when I really need her. The part about the house is super clear because we're trying to see our house right now! I think the part about me wanting to take custody of her is my wanting to protect her, and right about the time I was having my dream she was probably on her way to get her wisdom teeth out!

It was interesting way to wake up and my day really seemed to go downhill when I took a sip of my coffee on the drive out and it was ICE COLD, nothing worse then COLD COFFEE, at least when your expecting hot!

Being the only example of its kind; constituting a class of its own; unique.

I'm unique, your unique, we're all unique!!

A-hem

A few words (ahem) "Noodle, bicycle, mint, chopstick, necktie, roast beef." Thank you.

I'm going out tonight and it'll be the first time I've been to a club in Vancouver. We're going out to the Stone Temple with Richmond No More for her 19th birthday!
I figured the clubbing would be quite similar to the clubbing in England, but according to Other England Girl it's quite different, and I will apperently be dissappointed?
We'll see!

Word of the DaySaturday for August 26, 2006
provender \PROV-uhn-duhr\, noun:
1. Dry food for domestic animals, such as hay, straw, corn, oats, or a mixture of ground grain; feed.
2. Food or provisions.

Wow, that really doesn't affect my life at all! It may have previously when I used to own a horse, and it would if I ever joined the Army like Brother, but for right now I just need to go eat a decent, full meal before I go out drinking for the night!

Connected

Mom and I were on our computers, and she turned hers off stating she was " Off the airwaves" And I replied "No your not, not really. No one ever is, not anymore."
We got into quite the discussion about technology and how quickly it's evolved, especially in the last 5 years! I noted that in our house alone ( now that Brother is home) we have 3 computers, all hooked up to a network together, and wireless internet. 3 cellphones, a land line, a fax line and at least two TVs set up on cable.
My earliest memory of technology is when we switched from dial up to cable hook-up internet, and now we're on wireless! The advances are inspiring and disturbing!
Mom told me all about her real life experiences with the newest technological developments, ie. actually having a PC! Being the first person on her street to have a computer in her own home, and this was 20 years ago!!
Her favorite story about that old thing is:

"I was writing up the Christmas Card list and accidently hit the wrong button, and 'Oh Shit'! The computer was now re-orgnizing the list in alphabetacal order. So, I went upstairs, cooked dinner, we ate dinner, I cleaned the dishes, we had coffee and watched a little TV. I went downstairs and the computer was just about done! Oh, did I mention there were 110 names on the list?! Two and a half hours for 110 names!!!!"

Technology is a scary thing, I just hope we one day catch up with ourselves.

robustious \roh-BUHS-chuhs\, adjective:
1. Boisterous; vigorous.
2. Coarse; rough; crude.

I say that 'boisterous' is a positive word...lively!
But I've always believed 'crude' to be a negitive word...rude!
How confusing, but none-the-less I will definatly try to use that word tomorrow!

When did applying for Post Secondary education become so hard, for that matter, was it ever easy?

Is this akward, tiresome, and utterley exhausting process designed to weed out those clearly not smart enough for College or Univesity?
Probably!
I know for a fact that the procedures involved in applying for, getting into and actually going to a Post Secondary Education school were most definatly thought up by a commitee of one form or another, designed to confuse and enrage any potential student, so that only those who can really stand up to that kind of mental and sometimes even physical abuse actually make it into the school!
Last June I applyed to 4 schools, 2 Universities (UBC and UVic) and 2 Colleges(Kwantlen and Langara). For those of you who are unfamilar with the Canadian educational system, in lamens terms a University is better, and more expensive then a College, and their required GPA is quite often a lot higher! Suffice to say I didn't get into the two Universities I applyed for! My final English grade wasn't high enough? I did however get into both Colleges I applyed for. Before going away for the year I decided I wanted to go to Langara (the better of the two) and I differed my application with them for a year.
Now here's where it starts to get fun!
I re-activated my account with them from England (God bless the internet) and was all set to apply for my courses. Unfortunatly my registration date fell right on the wrong day, my flight day, so while I was somewhere over Iceland, Mom was getting me all set for my Post Secondary experience....or so she thought!
All of my courses were being registered when suddenly the system told her I was unable to take my english course? Well that was a problem! I need to take English, that's one of the requirments!
That's okay....we're can sort it out when I land in Canada!
I land a few days later we head down to my campus, and ask some questions, go on a wild goose chase, following various notes on office doors leading us to more doors and more notes, and eventually finding ourselves in the "English Department Administration Offices" , now doesn't that sound official!
The upshot of the whole thing is that I was 2 percentages off passing Langara College requirment for english, I have to take the LET ( Langara English Test)! $40 later I'm all signed up! I mean it's not the $40, $40 is not that much, but that is on top of everything else I have paid out to them over the past 2 years now, and I haven't even been to one class yet! I need to take a test to prove that I can speak English! English is my first, and (I'm ashamed to admit it) only language! What else do they propose I write my papers in...Portugese!? Latin!? Maybe I could write it in my own 'made up' language, then I can just tell them if I'm right or not!

My apologies, I know I just had a little rant, and I think a SUBJECT CHANGE is in order.

Tonight I watched two movies, and caught 2 enormous spiders at my own personal intermission!

The first movie I watched was Room With a View. I really enjoyed it and the Charlotte character is a prime, albiet extreme exmple of polite society in the early 1900s. It's a comedy and very much has the slow and collected pace of some of the finer movies produced in the mid-eighties. Mom says it's a classic Merchant/Ivory production and I am very much inclined to agree!

INTERMISSION
Background the intermission of my evening.
Night before last there was a REALLY big wolf spider crawling on the fireplace. I'm not the type of girl who will get up and scream for someone else to do something about a spider, but this was one big fucking spider! I screamed for Mom and together we ( it was a joint, and I might add man free moment), trapped that BIG FUCKING SPIDER under our BIG FUCKING DRINKING GLASS! Haha, take that Spider! You think you're so great!
Well the spider sat there for 2 days, and even when I moved the glass earlier today, it was still alive in there! Wow, that's one strong spider!
Then tonight, there I was lying on the couch, minding my own business, when a BIGGER FUCKING SPIDER crawled all over my fireplace, well this I would NOT stand for! Mom was also opposed, and together we decided that the glass with paper over it manouver would be to dangerous, for us and the spider....so we decided to Hoover the bastard! Now while technically I don't think our vaccum cleaner is a Hoover, Hoovering something is a near internationally recognized phrase for vaccuming something up so you never have to see it again, and it just sounds cool! Well Mom got the 'Hoover' out while I kept my eye on our newest arrival. He was all curled up in the top corner of the fireplace and no doubt saying his last prayers. I'm sure he found God when that Hoover started up and the deafining roar of that little engine was muffled into a dull hum while he was being sucked down that tube at about 40kms/hr! Well, he wasn't alone for long in that dust filled solitary confinment. Moments later Mom and I both looked at the still alive one under the glass, and since we had no intenton of releasing it without setting up some kind of pulley and rope system so as to release him with ourseves at a distance of at least 10 feet, and we had no time to set up such a system, and the Hoover was already running, we decided, almost without saying as much to each other, that he was better off in the Hoover, with his friend...or enemy fighting over prime fireplace real-estate...I'm not sure?

INTERMISSION OVER

The second movie I watched was The Anarchist Cookbook. That movie was....interesting. It did at times have Fight Club tendentcies, but that might have just been because the main character reminded me of Edward Norton. I was actually really happy with the way that movie ended (not to give it away) but making it clearly a coming of age story, and showing that no matter how old you are, everything is a learning experience. We all do things, we all have actions to put it in literal terms, and the movie just showed (much like Fight Club) the immediate and sometimes explosive reprocussions of our actions!

TOTAL SUBJECT CHANGE

I bought a new shirt and shrug today at LeSenza. I'm going to wear it for running and the Yoga class I'm going to take with Little French Girl. It's really comfortable, but I was left with an uncomfortable feeling when I left the store. Big Red works at LeSenza and she started at 4:30 today. She was late because she got caught in some very unexpected traffic, and she was about 5 minutes late, if that. The traffic always happens that time of day, but apperently it was really bad today, I think there was an accident?
Well I was already in the store when she arrived, and she started work right away, and literally before I even had time to buy the two items, Big Reds manager was talking to her, outside the store, and it looked a little serious. So while I was really pleased with my purchases today, I left the mall feeling very uneasy, and still haven't even had a chance to talk to Big Red about it?

WONDERFUL SIDE NOTE!

Brother comes home tomorrow! I'm going to see Brother for the first time in literally a year, I left about this time last year! I'm going to see Brother!

denizen \DEN-uh-zuhn\, noun:
1. A dweller; an inhabitant.
2. One that frequents a particular place.
3. [Chiefly British] An alien granted certain rights of citizenship.
4. An animal, plant, etc. that has become naturalized.

Well that word actually covers quite a few possibilities!
Hmmm...I inhabit my home, and I frequenty visit the Tsawwassen Mall.
I'm not and 'alien' in Canada or England, so I suppose that one doesn't apply for me, but would it apply in another country or not since it says it's 'Chiefly British'?
I personally, currently have no naturalized plant parts on me, or on my person....score! Or maybe even Skor!

Changes, CHanges, CHAnges, Everything changes, CHANges, CHANGes, CHANGEs, CHANGES

So here I am sitting at my round, 300 year old, kitchen table eating pizza thats a mere 3 days old. The reason I mention the age of my pizza is because I'm reminded of my life in England, and my bizzare eating habits I had there. I was raised by the type of woman who often says things like " Oh, the cheese is fine, just cut the mould off!" and "That food is still good, just dust it off!" I may have taken that way of life to far when I ate maccaoni and cheese that was 3 weeks old, but it was fine!
Now that my mind has wondered from my life in England, it's moved onto life here. I'm making a lot of changes in my life right now (i.e. new friends, new school, soon new job, and even new hair cut) and it's so strange how smoothly it's all going!!
I got my hair cut, and got 4 and half inches taken off. When your hair was about 17 inches before and curly, having it shorter but strait, no one really notices, and I look kind of ordinary now! When it goes curly agian though, it'll be a bit of a Shirley Temple thing going on! The only thing tht stops mre from getting ahircut all the time though it that it cost $77.91, with tip and a new hair 'product'.
I'm looking for a new job too, but have no idea what I'm really qualified for? I suppose I'll have to go apply at local coffee shops, botiques, and grocery stores! Fun!
One thing I am really looking forward to, but is scaring me the most right now, is starting school! I am really looking forward to my classes, and what I'm taking ( PSYC!), but at the same time I am so worried about not doing well, and just failing at some aspect of it. Not nessecarily the classes, but not getting the most out of it that I can, or ( I know it sounds stupid and childish) people not liking me?

TOTAL SUBJECT CHANGE

I went out to all-you-can-eat sushi with Mom yesterday, and we do it everytime, order too much, and eat too much! It's just so good though! I realize raw fish isn't some peoples thing, but this place also has the little grills in the table, and you can get terriaki beef, chicken, or pork, and then cook it yourself! So good, and so filling! Such a good price for All-you-can-eat too! About $10 per/person for lunch!
Shabusen Japanese Yakiniku House on Granville! Amazing!
Later on today, Mom and I are heading out to Langley and I get to drive...And I LOVE driving, even if some people find it scary in the car with me?

TOTAL SUBJECT CHANGE

Little French Girl is coming over later on tonight after her work is finished (oh yes, she actually has a job, Oh My!) and we're going to watch Transamerica. Anyone seen it? What's it like?

1. Private; confidential; familiar.

Interesting how a word of the day in English is actually French. God bless the English language and its thieving ways!

Word of the Day for Wednesday August 23, 2006
expiate \EK-spee-ayt\, transitive verb:
To make amends for; to atone for.

Look deep here people, has there recently been a situation where this was called for? What do you have to make amends for? Who did you hurt? Who hurt you?

Shooting Extravaganza!

So there I was, standing at the shooting range, holding a 9mm in my hands! First of all the power you feel when simply holding this thing is unreal, and that feeling is only magnified when you pull that trigger, and the kickback could take you off your feet if you're not prepared! It's a bit of a frightening thought when you think about it, when you relaize that if pointed in the wrong direction you could cirtainly kill someone with this!!
Thats not the only gun I shot yesterday either, I also got my hands on a biringham small arms rifle ( I think taht's what it's called?), which was apperently used in the Nationals and in the right hands, actualy did fairly well! I also shot a Anshutz, which REALLY hurt my wonky shoulder, but I really wanted to go shooting!
The background to this event is that Uncle Who's Not, has been wanting to take me up shooting ever since I've been back from England, so I can get better and go against Middle Child. Middle Child it extremly competitive! We all know it, even She does!! The point is that she was in Air Cadets and was on the Bi-Athelon team with them, and knows how to shoot! I don't actually know how good she is or not, but Uncle Who's Not would just LOVE to see me, someone's who's never been in Air Caets, and have NO DESIRE to be, beat one who's "very good"!
I realize many people may have a plethera of ethical issues with gun use, and may think think it's wrong, or only encouraging violence, but it the defense of those who have shot a gun before, and genuinly enjoyed it, I say that having a range to go to, and practice at, is FAR safer then just going out into the forest and shooting off the gun! Hikers and various wildlife alike can all breath easy! I will however state that I have a bit of a problem with hunting, but at he same time I think that opens a whole new can of worms, and won't get into that, at least not toady!
Other then all those issues surounding picking up a gun and shooting at a paper target, on a beautiful sunny day, I REALLY ENJOYED IT!! I was with someone who cares enought about me to make that all happen, I was with someone who cares enough about me to want to spend time with me...the crazy me, and it was really good too! Thank you Uncle Who's Not!

vagary \VAY-guh-ree; vuh-GER-ee\, noun:

Me everyday!

Very tired this morning

You may ask "Why are you so tired?? Well I'll tell you! Last night I went with Little French Girl <<<(by the way that's an alias!) to a free play on Granville Island...two of my favorite things combined...play and FREE!! I went to the play, and had a great time! It was good, and I'm always a fan of a good Shakespeare, and it was "Much Ado About Nothing", one of my favorites. I was planning on turning in early and heading home after that play, because I hadn't been feeling well yesterday afternoon, but as I was pulling off Granville Island, I called Little French Girl to confirm that I was driving a 740 Turbo, with intercooler, ( re: previous diccussion) and She said that She had another free ticket for an improv show. Well how could I say no to FREE improv!! I turned the car around, by going around the block, God bless the grid system, and actually got exactly the same parking space! For those of you who don't know there are essencially two types of Improv, the kind with audience participation, and the kind without. This was the better kind, the kind where as an audiance member you can yell out random things, and people won't think your crazy! Well they usually won't! Well we took our seats, me, Little French Girl, and Little French Girls co-worker, and our first impression was a very exitable man (who has apperently been in the business, improv business, for 23 years) asking us to yell out "rooms in the house". The basics came out, "bathroom", "kitchen", as well as "tourture chamber", "pantry" and "massage room"! Next he wanted us to think of professions, and "teacher", "doctor" etc. came out, as well as "gymnist", and one of mine "Colorectal Surgeon". He paticularly liked that one because of the specificness of it! At other points in the night we were collectivly able to yell out "Spagehtti Western", "I was attacked by a 7 year old", and "Cheese!" The evening was VERY good, and VERY funny!! Unfortunatly we didn't get the tickets to the Canadians game for having the best suggestion, but if I had only held onto the surgeon one! Oh well, live and learn! I drove Little French Girl home, as well as co-worker, who incidently borrowed a very old copy of the Wizard of Oz comic from my back seat. It really is quite cool! I assumed my night was coming to close as I was driving up my street, but as I pulled into my driveway, I saw a shape taht sent shivers through my spine! A racoon! The one thin in the world I can't stand. They scare the Hell outta me, and while it's productive in de-Sataning me, It's scary! I got out of th car, and well, through my keys at them! It seemed to work, but then they came out of the bushes and went to PICK UP MY KEYS! BASTARDS!! I screamed and called Mom on my mobile and she kindly came down albiet a little tipsy ( bless!) and opened the door, scaring them away! I finally finished my evening by signing onto MSN, a must of course, and checking my e-mail. No e-mails from one person (Across The World) ,I wanted an e-mail from Him, to confirm I'm making the right choices, and no e-mail from the one who I'm supposed to making the right , or wrong as it might be, choice towards. I realize that was more confusing than is nessecary, but I suppose of you know who you are, you know who you are!

Well it saves you from having to wear a nametag...

Last Sunday, Mom had a stall in the local farm market. She was selling pillows, bags, nightgowns and other sewn items. The market runs everyother Sunday in the summer, along one of the oldest' streets in Ladner, and there is one market left. In exchange for helping her I got a free bolster pillow. Good times, I love it, it's pink! (kind of looks like a giant dinosaur pill)
I do have a point behind this blog, but I'm just building up to it!
Last night Mom and I were sitting around the kitchen table (which we do A LOT!) and she was thumbing through a 'sew news' magazine and came across a skirt which remeinded her of something that had happened at the market while I was taking a walk:

"The other day at the market a girl, well woman I suppose, came into the stall and she had the most intersting skirt on, a little short, and a bit mish-mashed in styles, but I actually complimented her on it.
'Oh I really like your skirt'
'Oh yeah....' she gumbled back
"She continued to look at the night gowns (this is still Mom talking) and came across the short one and I said:
'Oh yes, that one can be worn as a nighty or as a shirt on the street!'
'Well you couldn't wear it in Vancouver!' She replied indignantly.
"Well anyways(Mom still), she wandered off, obviously not purchasing anything.....what I should have said was:
'Oh I really like your skirt, it's saves you from having to wear a nametag that says 'Ho'!'
"Well I should have!...."

Mom and I continued to repeat this line ("Well it's saves you from having to wear a nametag that says 'Ho'.") at random moments of silence thoughout the evening, afterwhich we both burst into fits of giggles, and it felt like I never went away.

Well I might just start writing in this again...

Well I didn't write in this blog once really when I was in England, and I really should have! Oh well, live and learn!
I figure I might as well write in this again, but of course, I always say that every summer, and then all of a sudden September rolls around and I have no time to write in this! I might just try to make this year, the exception...maybe!
Well right now my family is over, and were having pasta!!! Good times! It's a little odd right now because when I say my family I literally mean all my family that's in the lower mainland right now.
This is a rare occurance for us right now. Uncle, Aunt, and Youngest are currently heading to somewhere near Edmonton, to pick up Middle Child, who has spend the summer working at an air cadet camp.
They are going to be near Brother who has been in Edmonton for the summer, also at camp.
Soon Family will all be home, and we can have real family dinners, but for right now it's just me, Mom, 360 Days Cousin, and Uncle Who's Not , who talks a lot and is currently going on and on and on about how 360 Days Cousin and I couldn't read an instructional pamphlet to save our lives....oh gosh....how funny! ( SARCASM!!!!)
